Wu-yi (Oolong) and Green Teas contain a large amount of polyphenols. It appears that the health benefit of either tea is the effect of polyphenols.

Green tea is from the same plant as (Camellia sinensis.) as Wu-Yi tea. After the tea leaves are plucked and sorted, they are either steamed or pan fired. Green tea does not go through the fermentation process. Green tea does have less caffeine than Wu-Yi tea.

For green tea, the leaves are processed and dried in such a way as to avoid fermentation. Oolong tea is partially fermented.

Oolong Tea tea has a caffeine content between that of green teas and black teas. The flavor is typically not as robust as black tea or as subtle as green tea, but has its own fragrant subtleties. It can be compared to the taste and aroma of fresh flowers or fruit.

Since both teas contain large amounts of polyphenols, they may have antioxidant, anticancer, and antiviral properties, as well as regulating appetite and weight loss.

Which is better? I drink both Green tea and Wu-yi Tea. Oolong may have a little more caffeine than Green Tea so that may be a determining factor if you are to stay away from caffeine. They both may have polyphenols so both teas may have a profound effect on the way you feel and the benefits to your health and heart.

Tips To Store Green Tea

Green tea can be stored longer than other teas and still keep its original taste. But here are some more storing green tea tips to stretch the freshness even longer. The tea should be stored a closed aluminum or tin cans. The cans should be placed in cool and dark place. Keep the tea away from any radiation, light, and heat source such as oven, heat, and microwaves. The light and the heat will change the structure of the tea, causing it to change its taste.

We usually think that Heat goes with Dry. But actually Heat goes with Humid. It's Cold that goes with Dry. So if there is a excess amount of heat, the tea can absorb more moisture and rot much faster. Also, the fungi can really grow in humid environment. Refrigerator is a cool place but it's not a good place for storing green tea. Beside moisture, tea also is sensitive to other fragrances of other foods.

Some people are careful with storing the tea but are not so cautious when taking the tea out. Clean the spoon and dry the spoon before you use it to scoop the tea. A little water could ruin the whole can.

It's a good idea to take out a little bulk of tea and put it into a small can for frequent use. That way if the tea is ruin, you can toss it away and get a new patch. This is better than throwing away the whole big bulk of tea.

One last thing to keep in mind is that make sure the lid of the tea can is tightly closed. It's really not a good feeling when you are cautious with everything else but find out later that the tea is still ruined because you forgot to close the lid...tightly.

Do you know how much caffeine is in a cup of tea? Most tea drinkers are confused. Caffeine occurs naturally in coffee, tea and cocoa beans. It is added to cola to enhance flavor.

Since black and green tea come from Camellia sinensis, the tea plant, both contain caffeine. Most herbal teas are made from herbal blends and contain no real tea. As a result, most herbal teas, such as chamomile, are caffeine free. Red tea or rooibos, a South African herb, contains no caffeine and has many of the health benefits as green tea. Honeybush tea, another increasingly popular herbal tea, also is caffeine-free.

On average, a cup of tea contains 1/3 the caffeine as a cup of coffee. According to the USDA, an 8 ounce cup of coffee brewed with tap water has 137.7 milligrams of caffeine; an 8 ounce cup of tea brewed with tap water has 37.5 milligrams of caffeine; a 16 ounce cola has 49 milligrams of caffeine.

Caffeine levels in tea bags and loose tea are similar. The amount of time you steep the tea is the biggest factor in determining the level of caffeine.

Here is a tip in case of emergency and you are without a decaffeinated teabag. First, place a standard tea bag in a cup and fill with boiling water. Light and heat rob away flavours of tealeaves. If your tea is constantly exposed to light or heat, it tends to make a weaker brew, or decreases the number of flavourable infusions. The most convenient way is to put them in a non-transparent bag or container and away from any heat source such as ovens or heaters.
